석빙고

The Gyeongju Seokbinggo is a long, vaulted stone structure built partially underground, with a roof made of massive granite slabs. King Yeongjo ordered its construction in seventeen thirty-eight, relocating it from an earlier site nearby. Ice blocks harvested from the frozen river in winter were stored here, packed with straw and earth for insulation. This design kept ice frozen through the heat of summer, providing a luxury meant exclusively for the royal court and high-ranking officials until the autumn thaw.
