The Hurrem Sultan Hammam sits between the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, marked by its distinctive twin domes covered in lead that shine a dull gray against the Istanbul sky. Mimar Sinan designed this bathhouse in fifteen fifty-six at the request of Hurrem Sultan, the wife of Suleiman the Magnificent. It replaced the ancient public baths of Zeuxippus. Hurrem Sultan commissioned the structure to serve the community, specifically the worshipers visiting the nearby Hagia Sophia, ensuring they had a place for ritual cleansing.
