Süleymaniye Hamam

The Süleymaniye Hamam sits directly beside the mosque complex designed by the architect Mimar Sinan in fifteen fifty-seven. Its roof features a series of domes and chimneys that release steam into the Istanbul sky. Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent commissioned the bathhouse for the people living in his neighborhood, and it remained open to the public for centuries. During the nineteenth century, the poet Yahya Kemal Beyatli frequently visited, claiming the marble basins were the best place in the city to clear his head.
