The Anıt Taş is a rectangular marble column topped with a carved crescent and star, standing where Tesvikiye Avenue splits. Sultan Abdulmecid commissioned the monument in eighteen fifty-four to mark the development of the neighborhood. He wanted a visible sign that the area was no longer just hunting grounds for the imperial court. The stone commemorates the sultan himself and his father, Sultan Mahmud the Second. It remains the reason this district bears the name Nisantasi, or aiming stone, referring to targets used for archery practice.
