The Millî Reasürans building sits behind a long, curved wall of concrete and glass that separates the quiet, sunken courtyard from the busy street. Architect Sevinç Hadi designed this space in the late nineteen eighties to house an insurance company headquarters and an art gallery. Instead of placing the main office block directly against the road, she tucked the structure into the rear of the lot. This layout creates an open, shaded plaza that remains one of the few peaceful pockets in central Istanbul.
