Westbourne Gardens occupies a triangular plot that marks a transition in the character of this neighborhood. While today it is defined by its elegant, white-stuccoed Victorian townhouses, the area was once an open, leafy retreat known as Westbourne Green. The transformation from a rural hamlet to the urban landscape you see now occurred largely between eighteen fifty and eighteen fifty-five, as the city expanded rapidly toward the west.
