The building you are approaching began as a single, modest terraced house in eighteen thirty-one. Benjamin Harvey opened a linen shop on this corner of Knightsbridge and Sloane Street, a site that has remained the home of the business ever since. Through rapid success, the shop expanded into neighboring properties until it eventually claimed the entire city block. What you see today is the result of a complete demolition of those earlier structures, replaced between eighteen eighty-nine and eighteen ninety-four by the current grand edifice designed by the architect C. W. Stephens.
