Anchor Brewhouse

The Anchor Brewhouse stands as a prominent fixture of the Bermondsey riverside, defined by its stark Victorian industrial architecture. John Courage established the brewery here in 1787, choosing this specific spot so that barges could deliver grain, hops, and yeast directly from the river into the building. The facility operated as a central hub for Courage brewing for nearly two centuries, taking advantage of the Thames-side location until operations finally ceased in 1981.
