White Cube

White Cube Bermondsey occupies a sprawling former warehouse that dates back to the nineteen seventies. Before the gallery arrived in two thousand eleven, this building served industrial and office functions, characterized by its dark brown engineering brick and a heavy, modernist profile. Architects Casper Mueller Kneer transformed the site into what was, at its launch, the largest commercial gallery space in Europe. They preserved the building's rough industrial bones while inserting self-supporting, pristine white volumes inside that barely touch the original structure. The result is a deliberate play of contrasts where raw, utilitarian history meets the refined, minimalist environment required for high-end contemporary art.
