The Cyprus Street War Memorial stands as a rare, localized record of the First World War. While most memorials were commissioned by official government bodies, this marble tablet was created by the Duke of Wellington’s Discharged and Demobilised Soldiers and Sailors Benevolent Club. The club, based at a local pub of the same name, raised the funds to honor the men from their own street who never returned from the front.
