Trinity Green Almshouses

historic

The Trinity Green Almshouses stand as a rare island of quiet near the bustling Mile End Road. Built in sixteen ninety-five, these red-brick residences were commissioned by the Corporation of Trinity House to provide a sanctuary for retired master mariners and their widows. Look closely at the rooftops and you will spot model ships, a nod to the seafaring lives of those who once called this place home. The complex was originally designed with two rows of houses facing inward toward a central green, creating a secluded, village-like atmosphere designed to keep the residents connected to their maritime roots while providing a place of rest.
