Hannibal House

Hannibal House was a distinct sixteen story office building that rose directly above the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre. Completed in nineteen sixty five, the tower functioned as a utilitarian government hub for decades, housing offices for the Ministry of Public Building and Works and later various agencies under the Department of Health. While its architecture was strictly functional, the building served as a site for two of the most significant public inquiries in modern British history, including the investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence. By the time it was demolished in twenty twenty one, it had become a prominent marker of the mid twentieth century redevelopment of the area.
