The singer Jenny Lind lived in this house during the eighteen eighties, toward the end of a career that earned her the nickname the Swedish Nightingale. She gained international fame not only for her operatic voice but also for her immense popularity in the United States, where a massive marketing campaign by showman P.T. Barnum turned her into a household name before she even arrived for her first tour.
