Piscator (Paolozzi)

Commissioned by British Rail in 1980, the sculpture was designed as a tribute to the German theatre director Erwin Piscator, a pioneer of political and documentary theatre. While its abstract, blocky form features silvered bumps and hollows that are difficult to interpret from the ground, the sculpture reveals the distinct shape of a human head and body when viewed from above by office workers in the surrounding towers.
