Statue of Robert Stephenson

The statue of Robert Stephenson, a towering bronze figure, was commissioned by the Institute of Civil Engineers to honor one of the most influential figures in railway history. Standing at roughly twice the size of a human, the monument depicts the engineer holding a set of partially unfurled plans, a nod to the technical designs that powered the nineteenth-century rail boom. Though it was completed by the sculptor Carlo Marochetti by 1867, the statue did not find its home in the forecourt of Euston Station until 1871. It remains one of the few physical remnants of the original Victorian station architecture to survive the massive redevelopment of the site during the 1960s.
