Clerkenwell cinema fire

On February 26, 1994, the building at 7 St John Street was the site of a fatal arson attack at a venue then known as the Dream City adult cinema. The fire began after a man who had been ejected from the club following a dispute over the entry fee returned to the entrance with a can of petrol. He ignited the fuel in the foyer, causing flames to rapidly consume the four-story structure. Eleven men lost their lives in the blaze, most of them trapped in the upper-level screening rooms.
