Kennington Park

Kennington Park stands on ground that was once known as Kennington Common. For centuries, this area served as a public space for grazing livestock and playing early forms of cricket. By the eighteenth century, however, it gained a much darker reputation as the site of the Surrey Gallows. Criminals, highwaymen, and those convicted of treason were executed here until the year eighteen hundred. The final person to meet their end at the common was a fraudster named Badger, marking the end of a long and grim era for the site.
