While many people assume this to be a Victorian original, it was actually installed in 1931. Its design was overseen by J. Markham of the Office of Works, and it features eight slender iron columns that support a distinctive, S-shaped ogee roof. This specific silhouette was chosen for more than just aesthetics, as it was believed to provide superior acoustic projection for the musicians performing within.
