The Water Gardens Designed Landscape

The Water Gardens are a remarkable example of modernist urban planning, completed between nineteen sixty-one and nineteen sixty-six. They were designed by landscape architect Philip Hicks to provide a tranquil communal space for residents living in the three high-rise towers that dominate this site. The entire garden is built upon a podium deck, which serves a practical purpose by concealing a large basement car park and service area beneath your feet. By lifting the landscape off the ground, the designers created a suspended oasis that separates pedestrians from the noise and activity of the city streets below.
