Hereford Square

Hereford Square began as a cluster of pastures and the gardens of a country house known as Hereford Lodge. Architect Thomas Holmes transformed this land into the current residential square between eighteen forty-five and eighteen fifty. He designed it as three symmetrical Italianate terraces, white-stuccoed townhouses that were intended to provide a grand, leafy retreat from the density of the city.
