The Banglatown Arch was erected in 1997 to serve as a formal gateway to the southern end of Brick Lane. Designed by artist Meena Thakor, the structure features the bold red and green colors of the Bangladeshi national flag. It stands as a physical marker of the area's designation as Banglatown, a branding initiative that helped solidify the neighborhood's reputation as a culinary and cultural destination. The local Bengali community campaigned for the arch to celebrate their heritage and the significant contributions they have made to the character of Spitalfields.
