The Boar's Head Theatre occupied a strategic location just outside the official jurisdiction of the City of London. By building their playhouse a few feet beyond the boundary of the City walls, the owners successfully escaped the strict control of the Lord Mayor and his aldermen. This allowed the venue to operate with more freedom than its competitors inside the City, serving as a hub for rowdy plays and urban satires that might otherwise have been censored or banned.
