Petticoat Lane Market holds the title of one of the oldest and most legendary street markets in London. While you will not find a street by that name on a modern map, its history is etched into the very layout of this district. Originally, the site was known as Hogs Lane, a rural path used to drive pigs toward the city. By the early seventeenth century, the name shifted to Petticoat Lane because of the proliferation of vendors selling second-hand lace, petticoats, and other garments in the area.
