Nursery Row Mural

Nursery Row Park stands on land that carries the memory of the streets that once defined this dense corner of Walworth. The park takes its name from the former Nursery Row, a residential street that ran between Brandon Street and Orb Street until it was demolished in the late nineteen seventies as part of a widespread slum clearance program. Three generations of families lived in the small terraced houses that stood here, celebrating coronations and the end of world wars within their tight-knit community before their homes were dispersed and leveled. The green space you see today expanded significantly in nineteen eighty to occupy the footprint of these vanished streets, preserving the history of a neighborhood that was once among the most densely populated places in all of Britain.
