The dark green storefront of Cardew’s on the Covered Market holds a collection of brass tea canisters stacked floor to ceiling. For over one hundred years, the shop has supplied the city with loose-leaf tea and roasted coffee beans. When the shop opened in nineteen twenty-four, the founder, George Cardew, focused on a simple trade. He purchased tea from London docks and ground his coffee on the premises. The distinct, toasted scent of his beans still signals the shop’s presence today.
