History of Science Museum

The History of Science Museum occupies the Old Ashmolean building, a narrow stone structure distinguished by the ornamental heads carved into the cornice above its entrance. It holds the world’s oldest collection of scientific instruments, including the chalkboard Albert Einstein used during a nineteen thirty-one lecture. When he finished his equations, he stepped back, but the museum staff prevented the janitor from erasing the board. Those chalk marks remain, a frozen moment of his calculations preserved exactly as he left them.
