Edmond Halley House

The Edmond Halley House is a plain, stone-faced dwelling on Holywell Street distinguished by a small, circular plaque near the door. Edmond Halley lived here while serving as the Savilian Professor of Geometry at Oxford in the early eighteenth century. He famously used his time in this house to refine his calculations on the orbits of comets, identifying the specific object that now bears his name. He watched the night sky from a private observatory he built directly onto the roof.
