Wadham College features a distinctive front quadrangle where the stone facade remains largely unchanged since sixteen thirteen. Nicholas and Dorothy Wadham founded the college on the site of a former Augustinian priory, choosing to build in a conservative Gothic style long after the fashion had faded elsewhere. During the English Civil War, John Wilkins transformed these quiet rooms into a laboratory for the Royal Society. He hosted regular meetings where Christopher Wren and Robert Boyle gathered to debate physics and astronomy among the bookshelves.
