The Eagle Ironworks is defined by its long, low brick facade and the heavy, rusted metal remains of its gatehouse on Walton Well Road. Between eighteen thirty-seven and nineteen eighty-six, this site churned out manhole covers, lamp posts, and ornate iron railings that still define the streets of Oxford. Founder James P. Thorp eventually brought his son into the business, but the factory burned down in eighteen seventy-three. They rebuilt immediately, turning the charred remains into a center for industrial innovation.
