St Barnabas Church

St Barnabas Church rises above the streets of Jericho with a tall, slender campanile modeled after the campaniles of Northern Italy. Built in eighteen sixty-nine, the church served the local canal workers and iron foundry laborers who lived in the neighborhood. Arthur Blomfield designed the building with a wide nave and brick arches that departed from the Gothic styles favored by his contemporaries. The interior remains bare, exposing the brickwork and the timber roof, just as the original congregation experienced it.
