The Hebrew Academy of San Francisco began in 1969 as a modest school for just a handful of primary grade students. Its founder, Rabbi Pinchas Lipner, envisioned a rigorous dual-curriculum that combined traditional Orthodox religious studies with a full secular education. By the time it moved to its final campus on 14th Avenue in 1986, it had grown into a comprehensive institution that served as the city's only Orthodox Jewish high school for decades.
