Jefferson Airplane House

The mansion at 2400 Fulton Street was built in 1904 by a lumber baron named R. A. Vance. At the time of its construction, the surrounding Richmond District was largely composed of rolling sand dunes. The house stands as a survivor of the 1906 earthquake and fire, which devastated much of the city. Legend claims the world-famous tenor Enrico Caruso, a friend of Vance, sought refuge in this home on the morning the earthquake struck after fleeing his hotel. Continue
