Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall

The Caroline H. Hume Concert Hall occupies a space that once served a very different purpose. Before it became the flagship performance venue for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, this grand room functioned as the ballroom of a Catholic Boys Club. When the Conservatory moved into the building in 2006, architects chose to preserve the original pilasters, cornices, and ceiling ribbing of that historic hall. These architectural elements now do more than provide aesthetic charm, as they also function as sound-scattering surfaces to help refine the room's acoustics.
