The corner of Sixteenth and Bryant streets marks the former home of Seals Stadium, identified today by a brass home plate set into the sidewalk. For twenty-eight years, this minor league ballpark served as the heart of San Francisco baseball. In nineteen fifty-eight, it hosted the very first major league game played on the West Coast when the Giants moved from New York. A young Willie Mays sprinted across this grass, chasing fly balls while local fans cheered from the wooden bleachers.
