The Lab (organization)

The Lab occupies a space with a deep connection to labor history. It is situated within the Redstone Building, which originally served as the San Francisco Labor Temple when it was constructed in 1914. This building once housed twenty-two different labor unions and acted as a primary headquarters for organizing the historic 1934 San Francisco General Strike. That strike was a pivotal event in the national fight for the forty-hour work week and improved labor conditions. Today, the arts organization honors that legacy by operating within the same historic footprint that once sheltered union organizers.
