Cayuga Park

Cayuga Park serves as a vivid example of how a single person can radically alter a public space. In nineteen eighty-six, the city assigned a gardener named Demetrio Braceros to this four-acre plot with a simple directive to change its atmosphere. At the time, the area was a neglected landscape often plagued by trash and gang activity. Over the next twenty-three years, Braceros transformed it into a lush, artistic sanctuary by planting elaborate gardens and carving hundreds of wooden sculptures from fallen trees he found on the site.
