The name of this neighborhood, Ocean View, originated from a specific railway stop that once stood near Plymouth and Sagamore Avenues. Local lore holds that this spot marked the very first point on the San Francisco to San Jose steam train line where passengers traveling south from downtown could finally catch a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean. While the original nineteenth-century station has long since vanished, its legacy is cemented in the name of the modern light rail stop where you now stand.
