C. A. Belden House

The C. A. Belden House stands on Gough Street as a preserved example of late nineteenth-century Queen Anne architecture. Built in 1889, the residence was commissioned by Charles A. Belden, who served as the treasurer for a prominent local company that imported stoves and metals. The house is notable for its refusal to blend in with other popular trends of the era, such as Eastlake or Colonial Revival styles, remaining instead a pure expression of Queen Anne design. Its three-story frame sits directly across from Lafayette Park, anchoring a streetscape that reflects the residential ambitions of the city's elite during that time.
