Baker and Hamilton Building

The Baker and Hamilton Building stands as a rare survivor of the catastrophic 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. While flames razed nearly every wooden structure and many masonry warehouses in the surrounding district, this industrial fortress remained largely unscathed. Its survival was so decisive that it became an anchor for the city's massive reconstruction efforts, proving the durability of its brick, sandstone, and heavy timber design.
