Yacht Club Bell Tower

This stone structure is not a traditional lighthouse, but rather an ornamental beacon built in nineteen thirty-one to mark the entrance to the yacht harbor. Its design was modeled after ancient Roman military watchtowers used during the Punic Wars. The stone walls hold a surprising secret, as they were constructed using salvaged materials from a thirty-five room mansion that burned down in a city fire. The tower once featured a teak door fashioned from a ladder salvaged from a ship called the USS Matsonia. Today, the structure remains an unmanned relic of a grander vision, as planners originally intended to build a pair of these towers to flank the harbor entrance.
