The solar-powered Ferris wheel rising above the Santa Monica Pier defines the skyline of Pacific Park. This amusement zone sits at the end of a wooden deck that stretches seventeen hundred feet into the Pacific Ocean. While the pier opened in nineteen oh nine to support sewage pipes, it quickly evolved into a recreation destination. In nineteen ninety-six, the current park opened to replace an older carousel building, permanently shifting the pier from a quiet fishing spot into a neon-lit permanent carnival.
