Santa Monica 66 - End of the Trail

landmark

The steel sign displaying a black silhouette of a traveler and the words End of the Trail marks the spot where Route Sixty-Six officially terminates. For decades, drivers traveled from Chicago across two thousand four hundred miles of pavement to reach this particular stretch of sand. Will Rogers Highway enthusiasts pushed for this designation in the nineteen fifties, cementing the connection between the inland road and the Pacific Ocean. The current marker remains a popular destination for those completing the cross-country journey.
