DuSable Bridge

Two massive steel bridge houses sit at the north and south ends of the DuSable Bridge, their granite facades carved with relief sculptures depicting scenes from Chicago history. This double-deck bascule bridge spans the Chicago River, connecting the Michigan Avenue boulevard to the city's commercial core. In nineteen twenty, the engineer Edward Bennett designed these structures to lift in just over a minute. When the bridge opened, the city held a massive celebration to mark the completion of this vital link.
