Chicago Temple Building

The Chicago Temple Building rises twenty-two stories to a dramatic Gothic spire that reaches five hundred sixty-eight feet above the sidewalk. This is the home of the First United Methodist Church, which holds the title of the tallest church building in the world. Back in nineteen twenty-four, the congregation refused to move away from the heart of the Loop. They chose to build upward instead, integrating their sanctuary into the base of a commercial skyscraper to fund their mission.
