The Goodman Theatre carries a distinctive, stark white marquee that cuts across the busy streetscape of Dearborn. This is the oldest non-profit theater in Chicago, emerging from the Art Institute in nineteen twenty-five. When the original building faced demolition, the theater relocated here in two thousand. Actor Eugene O'Neill Jr. once performed on its stage, while a young Marlon Brando famously walked out on a production during rehearsals, leaving the director to find an immediate replacement before the curtain rose.
