James M. Nederlander Theatre

The James M. Nederlander Theatre holds the corner of Randolph and LaSalle with a heavy, cream-colored terra cotta facade. Inside, the auditorium features an ornate, gilded interior designed by the Rapp brothers in nineteen twenty-six. Before it hosted long-running Broadway hits, the space operated as a movie palace called the Oriental Theatre. During its grand opening, the house famously showcased an exotic, Far East-inspired lobby complete with stone elephants and authentic antiques that patrons traveled across the city to see.
