Dearborn Station

The red brick clock tower rising above Dearborn Station identifies the building from blocks away. Built in eighteen eighty-five, it served as the city’s primary gateway for passengers arriving from the south and west. By the nineteen twenties, seventeen railroads operated out of these tracks, moving nearly two hundred trains every single day. A porter named George Pullman once orchestrated the movement of thousands of travelers through these concourses, shaping the daily rhythm of the station until the final train departed in nineteen seventy-one.
