Pittsfield Building

The Pittsfield Building rises forty stories above Washington Street with a terra cotta facade that grows lighter in color as it climbs toward the sky. When it opened in nineteen twenty-seven, it housed dozens of doctors and dentists, featuring a basement-to-penthouse pneumatic tube system that delivered medical records and samples instantly to any floor. A doctor once kept a small zoo in his office here, including a pet alligator that spent its days swimming in a custom-built marble sink.
