The Drake

The Drake Hotel features a limestone facade topped by a distinct, green-tiled roof that rises above the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Walton Street. Built in nineteen twenty by the same architects who designed the Blackstone, it provided a luxury anchor for the growing neighborhood. When the hotel opened, guests paid three dollars a night for a room. Within the first year, it hosted the wedding reception of a prominent Chicago industrialist, cementing its reputation as the city’s center for high society.
