The Billy Goat Tavern sits below street level, tucked into the concrete pillars of the lower deck of Michigan Avenue. Sam Sianis and his uncle William Sianis turned this basement space into a refuge for reporters and editors from the nearby Chicago Tribune. William famously brought his pet goat into the tavern to bring good luck, but later cursed the Chicago Cubs when the animal was denied entry to a game. The scent of frying burgers and onions fills this cramped, dimly lit room.
